There are three primary ways to build your customer base:

1. Create a pool of prospects who need your product or service

2. Create a referral network to recommend your product or service to others

3. Create a lasting relationship with your existing customers

As a [BUSINESS -- i.e., real estate, insurance, banking, etc.] professional, you certainly understand that without customers, you have no business! Yet surprisingly, many people overlook their existing customers when it comes to marketing. The assumption is that marketing and advertising should be focused on generating new customers.

But the truth is, it's much more important to market to your existing customers. It is far easier to keep a satisfied customer than to develop a new one. What's more, your existing customer base is a potential source of new customers by means of referrals.
